Approach

balance ° shift

When you stand still,
- eyes closed, feet touching each other, arms suspended from the shoulders -
you can feel it:
Our body is never completely still. It sways slightly in a ceaseless flow
to stay balanced with regard to gravity.
In the same way, we balance ourselves in many ways…
…by means of what we eat and digest…
…in our relations to the people around us…
…throughout the course of the day and over the cycle of the year…

We feel what we are - and are what we feel

Our Body with its many different systems - blood circulation, nerves, metabolism, hormones… - is a miracle of balancing. Whenever its capacity to adjust is stinted, however, we experience stagnation and pain. When our movement is impaired, we also feel emotionally impeded. Conversely, emotional distress may express itself through physical complaints – and as the origins of these symptoms might not be obvious, they still increase our suffering.

In this field of tension, somatic work turns towards the Body’s structures, allowing them to lead us to the deep-set causes of the current condition. The origins of physical distress may date back to very early times. Old injuries, unresolved experiences during childhood, or events during our birth can influence the way we feel in the now. Even experiences we made when we were in the womb are still archived in the memory of our cells. Once these things can be named and perceived in their entirety, we can find back to a new balance - physically and emotionally.

What happens during a session?

When you come to see me for the first time, we will do a thorough anamnesis. It helps us to get acquainted and provides me with the information I might need to assess your situation. I will ask you a few questions regarding underlying medical conditions, former accidents or surgery and your situation in life. After our initial anamnesis, you can tell me why you came to see me in my practice.

Following our conversation, I will do a general physical examination and somatic anamnesis - an assessment through touch. I will trace your physical structure for tension and imited weight flow. As I assess a region of the body, healing and diagnosis happens simultaneously. This may lead you to a state of deep relaxation, almost like a nap, and you can rest for a little while after I finished. Our session will conclude with a short reflection on what happened and how you feel, and we may plan the next steps in your healing process.

That said, you don’t need to have symptoms to come and have a session with me. Somatic work is a great way to prevent pain and emotional distress, and many of my clients see me to boost their sense of well-being.

Practical Matters and fees

Our first session will require an hour of your time. Generally, I recommend one-hour sessions. This gives you time for rest and reflection, which is essential for change to occurr. If your problem is acute, one session may be enough. With chronical symptoms, I recommend a sequence of weekly or bi-weekly treatments followed by a period of monthly sessions.

I calculate my fees on the basis of the Gebührenverzeichnis für Heilpraktiker, and you will receive a bill or receipt. Statutory health insurance will most likely not cover my fee; private or subsidising insurances may. Please check back with your person in contact.

If you are uncertain whether my aproach is the right path for you, you may benefit from my twenty minute health counseling offer. It is free of charge. Please feel free to contact me via phone or email to make an appointment.
